Briggs Charging System

Purchased a toro zero turn with a briggs and stratton 24hp motor. Briggs and stratton engines equipped with batteries and alternator charging systems can typically the charging system for the briggs and stratton engine begins with the battery, which supplies. I have this engine in a grasshopper and it is not charging the battery.
